Pedestrian injured in Eureka accident

A pedestrian was taken to St. Joseph Hospital with unknown injuries after being hit by a car this afternoon, according to authorities.

Eureka Police Department Public Services Officer Brittany Kesterson said the man was running east on Tomlinson Street at 1:19 p.m. when a car in the left lane hit him.

"There was a car turning right onto Broadway and the right lane of traffic stopped," Kesterson said. "The car in the left lane didn't know what was going on and hit the pedestrian."

Kesterson said drugs and alcohol are not involved and the driver had no injuries. She added that the pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk.

"No one really expects pedestrians to cross here, but this is a reminder for drive and walk safely," she said.
