Garberville Sanitary District (GSD) will hold a public hearing during its next regular board meeting, scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, to hear comment, discuss, and approve its annexation application to the Humboldt County Local Agency Commission (LAFCo). If LAFCo approves, GSD's legal boundaries will expand to include 84 additional parcels in various locations near Garberville.
According to the official Notice of Intent, GSD "proposes to modify its existing District boundary to include areas currently served by the water system purchased from the Garberville Water Company in 2004.... to reflect existing wastewater and water services currently provided by the Garberville Sanitary District."
Written comments about the proposed annexation from any member of the public will be accepted until noon the day of the hearing, April 22. Spoken comment can also be made during the hearing.
Comments can be emailed to email@example.com or sent by postal mail to Garberville Sanitary District, Attn: Jennie Short, PO Box 211, Garberville 95542; or written comments may be brought into the district office during business hours by noon, April 22.
The application and attached documents, including a map of the proposed annexation and a list with details about each parcel, will be available in the district office during regular business hours.
Capital projects manager Jennie Short expects to submit the application in time for LAFCo's consideration at its May meeting. GSD hopes that LAFCo will schedule a final public hearing at its July meeting.
Between the two hearings, the owners of property proposed for annexation will have an opportunity to make a formal protest to the LAFCo executive officer. Comments from the general public can be made at any time prior to approval.
