Lady Cubs end regular season with loss to St. Bernard’s

The South Fork Lady Cubs took an early lead against Little 4 rival St Bernard’s Crusaders but could not hold on in their regular season finale. The Lady Cubs came out strong leading after the first and finishing the half down by only one, 17-16.

In the third quarter the Cubs were able to take a lead to start the half but were outscored 19-7 in the quarter and they were unable to recover in the fourth. The Cubs had trouble rebounding all night and the Crusaders took advantage scoring many of their points after the first shot as well as connecting well from the 3-point line.

The Cubs played strong despite a small varsity squad that was supplemented by a couple of JV players who were playing in their second game of the night. Trisha Harrison and Brianna Finney each scored in the double digits in the loss.

The Cubs have a chance to redeem themselves Monday against St. Bernard’s in tournament action.

"We’ll go up and play St. Bernard’s once again, and we can play them tough for a while and if we do the right things like boxing out and giving them only one shot at the basket it’s a lot easier." Coach Dave Bushnell said.

Final score:

Trisha Harrison - 16

Brianna Finney - 12

Kassie Humphrey - 3

Emma Valk - 3

The Lady Cubs finished the season with a record of 11-12, including 2-4 in the division. South Fork faced St. Bernard’s again on Monday night in their fourth meeting of the season. No information was available at press time.
