The Eureka Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will meet on Thursday, Jan. 23 for their first meeting of 2014. Guest presenter will be Elaine Sedlack from the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden who will present an overview of Genus Rhododendron.
It’s always an event to be able to welcome Elaine Sedlack back to the north coast. Her decades with the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden’s Asian Collection and the Mendocino Coast Botanical Garden and knowledge of rhodies means it will be a wonderful and informative program, "Sorting Out the Genus Rhododendron."
This group meets at The Eureka Woman’s Club, 1531 J St., 7 p.m. Rhody plants are available to buy and to win (as a door prize or from an opportunity drawing). Refreshments are served, and general camaraderie reigns.
Elaine is an S.F. Bay original, born in Oakland, growing up in El Cerrito. An art background has influenced her gardening ventures. She has traveled to China and Japan and speaks Mandarin, though less fluently now.
The public is welcome. There are no fees and reservations are not necessary. For additional information, call 443-8049.
