Eureka-Arcata paving project suspended until spring

A project to upgrade and maintain paving and guardrails on Hwy. 101 between Eureka and Arcata will be suspended for the winter and will resume this spring, according to Caltrans.

Since the project began in August 2013, eighty percent of the paving improvements have been accomplished. Once work resumes this spring the project is expected to be completed by early summer, weather permitting. The $13.6 project not only improves the highway surface, it also will allow for ten foot shoulders from the Eureka Slough Bridges to the junction with State Route 255 near Arcata.

Caltrans reminds motorists that the US Highway 101 safety corridor between Eureka and Arcata remains an active construction zone throughout the project’s winter suspension with enhanced fines for speeding. Please watch for bicyclists, and remember to slow for the cone zone.
