An early morning vehicle accident on Drake Hill Road in Fortuna on Monday, Dec. 16 has left former Piercy resident, 25-year-old Weston Edward Morris-Broussard dead and two young Southern Humboldt women severely injured. The driver, Michael Horn, is facing manslaughter and felony drunk driving charges. The families and the community are grieving.
In the dark after the accident, first responders rushed to provide help to those who had survived this horrific accident. Ashley Humphrey was medivacked to UC Davis where she was in critical condition and struggling to stay alive. She has internal injuries and head trauma.
Julia Ralsten was taken to Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna initially, then flown to Santa Rosa, and then, due to the severity of her injuries, on to Stanford. She has had several surgeries to deal with a multitude of complications including a broken back, a spleen that needed removing, a skull fracture, and a broken arm. She will need more surgeries in the future.
