Jeff Farley, the Humboldt County Fair board second vice-president, confirmed Thursday evening that he was subpoenaed, but said he did not know why.
Farley said this is the first time he has received a subpoena - a summons to appear in court to testify - and that he had not heard of any other fair board members being served. He declined to comment on when he is expected to appear in court.
Fair office staff members declined to comment on whether additional subpoenas had been served.
The fair board has seen recent turmoil. On Jan. 7, the board voted not to approve a contract renewal for longtime general manager Stuart Titus. On Feb. 2, board president John Burger resigned immediately following a board of director’s meeting. Board vice president Don Becker also stepped down, but will remain on the board until his term ends this year.
Titus’ last day was Thursday. He could not be reached for comment by the Times-Standard’s deadline.
