Smokey Bear poster contest winners announced

Students at Agnes J. Johnson School in Weott recently competed in the Smokey Bear poster contest. The local competition was sponsored by the Southern Humboldt Garden Club. Winning posters will be sent on to the state level and possibly to the finals in Washington, D.C.

During his visit Smokey congratulated 1st grader Billy Bigger for immediately notifying his mother when he spotted a fire last summer on his property in Weott. Mrs. Bigger was then able to call 911 and get help putting out the fire right away thus preventing a wildfire.
