On the afternoon of Tuesday, Jan. 29, detectives from the Eureka Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Unit (POP) served a search warrant on an indoor marijuana grow at the 1000 block of 15th St., Eureka. This investigation was in response to an anonymous tip regarding illegal marijuana cultivation.
During a subsequent search, detectives located 78, three- to four-foot tall mature marijuana plants in the residence’s detached garage. The marijuana plants, which weighed approximately 87.5 pounds, were confiscated and booked into EPD evidence. Due to the unsafe nature of the wiring used to sustain the marijuana grow, PG&E was called in to remove the power meter.
No arrests were made due to the suspect not being on scene. The completed investigation will be forwarded to the Humboldt County district attorney’s office for review.
