On Friday, Feb. 1 the Mateel Community Center in Redway is presenting the Black & Red Comedy Cabaret as a special kick-off event for the annual Red & Black Ball, which will take place the next night. Comedians, Dax Jordan, Richard Bain and the lovely ladies of the Bada Bing Burlesque Troupe will provide the entertainment.
Headlining the show will be Sacramento comedian, Dax Jordan, who says his upbringing as the only child of an original L.A. valley girl and a Midwestern jazz drummer, during the 80’s stand-up comedian boon, accounts for his corner on "that unique beatnik/mallrat/trekkie demographic."
Jordan, who can be heard on XM/Sirius satellite radio and The Bob & Tom Show, credits his early exposure to everything from Stan Freberg to George Carlin with ingraining in him a wide variety of styles and perspectives. He’s appeared in several films and television programs seen internationally.
Richard Bain started performing as a stand-up comedian in 2003 in North Carolina. He worked at Charlie Goodnight’s Comedy Club as the house MC and a couple years later moved to Oregon where he became one of Portland’s favorite comedians.
For the last two years has been broadening his career in Los Angeles where, when not doing stand-up, he can usually be found making videos with a group of friends, better known as Decision Makers Penthouse (DMP).
Bain starred in one of DMP’s videos that was featured on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. The Decision Makers Penthouse videos have been featured as Will Ferrell’s favorites on funnyordie.com. Bain has performed at the Bridgetown Comedy Festival every year, San Francisco Comedy and Burrito Festival in 2012, and won the Flapper’s Uncle Clyde’s Comedy Contest.
The Bada Bling Burlesque Troupe has a surprise performance planned for this special Black & Red Comedy Cabaret and will be providing table service as well as serving up their delicious cupcakes to benefit the troupe.
Doors open at 7:30 p.m. with comedy starting at 8:30 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door and the show is recommended for those 18 and over only. Limited table seating is available with a two-drink minimum. Cocktails, beer, wine, appetizers, desserts, and refreshments will be on hand.
