JV boys have tough night against Eureka rival

South Fork’s JV boys lost to St. Bernard’s in Eureka Friday night 39-31. "It was a poor shooting night for us," said head coach Doug Moody. "Both times we’ve played there we haven’t shot well." The Cubs missed 36 shots from the floor, stymied by aggressive and physical defensive play by the home side.

The Cubs went to the line only once in the game while St. Bernard’s got there often enough to get 10 points from free throws alone. "We’ve got to bring up the tempo of our practices and be more physical to get ready for the rest of our league games," said Moody. "Our league is one of the best in the section."

Both of the Cubs’ big men were bright spots in the game. Sophomore Cale Lehman gave South Fork a boost in the second quarter, rebounding well at both ends of the court and scoring 6 points on the night. Sophomore Cole Jacinto also played well in the paint and added 6 points of his own. Sophomore Cole Moody was team-scoring leader with 17 points including 4 from behind the arc.

The JVs will host McKinleyville Wednesday night at 6 p.m. and travel to Ferndale on Friday for a 4:30 tip-off. They are now 10-7 on the season, 0-2 in league play.
