The monthly government food commodities provided by Food for People in Eureka and distributed by volunteers at the Food Pantry located on Locust at the Garberville Community Presbyterian Church will be available Wednesday, Jan. 16 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 17 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
If your income falls within the government income guidelines, you are eligible. The commodities for this month are frozen chicken, peanut butter, peaches, green beans, rotini pasta, tomato sauce, breads, and various fruits and vegetables.
Individuals are asked to self-certify that they are eligible by signing in. Please bring identification with your local address. If you are picking up for a homebound person, you must have a consent form each month from them with their name, address, the number in their family, income, and authorization.
We ask that individuals or families try to come only once a month to help us serve as many households as possible - but if you need food, please come. A household may receive commodities only one time per month but we do have some emergency food donated by local residents and merchants.
The Food Pantry is usually open every Tuesday and Thursday 10:30 a.m. to noon, and Wednesdays 2 p.m. to 4 pm. Volunteers are needed for back up on all three days.
Anyone wishing to donate food for the Food Pantry program or who has an idea of how to improve the distribution program should talk to the volunteers. Any produce in good condition is welcome from your home garden and gleaners to help pick your fruit trees can be arranged so the food does not go to waste. We need large paper shopping bags.
