College scholarships available for graduating seniors

If you are a local graduating high school senior, or a current or returning college student, a neighbor’s generosity may help you achieve your goal through a scholarship from Humboldt Area Foundation.

January 15 to March 15 is the window to apply online at for scholarships ranging from $200 to $7,500. In an effort to make money more accessible to Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity County students, Humboldt Area Foundation has made scholarships available through one easy-to-use online application. Students answer a few short questions online and the software sorts through over 100 scholarships and lets students know the scholarships for which they are eligible.

"We will be visiting regional high schools to ensure that all students have an opportunity to apply for scholarships offered through Humboldt Area Foundation," stated Cassandra Wagner, program coordinator for Humboldt Area Foundation. "There are a wide range of scholarships available for students who are interested in attending vocational, community college and four-year universities. Students do not need a perfect GPA or high financial need to qualify for a scholarship. Scholarships offered through Humboldt Area Foundation are diverse and we encourage everyone to apply."

To find out when Humboldt Area Foundation will be hosting a workshop at your school, please contact your high school counselor. All scholarship applications must be submitted electronically by Friday, March 15 at 5 p.m.

Through the generous support of the community, Humboldt Area Foundation was able to award over a half million dollars to over 383 students on the North Coast last year. For the past 40 years, scholarship funds have been created by your neighbors and local organizations to support students in the region.
