Varsity girls fall to powerhouse Arcata

South Fork’s Lady Cubs basketball team lost to Arcata on the road Wednesday night 47-25. Head coach Dave Bushnell remarked that the Lady Tigers "are the best in the Humboldt Del Norte league as far as I can tell. We played a team that plays year round and it shows. They are very talented and hardworking. We had a good defensive effort in 1st quarter. We can play defense but our offense is lacking."

Bushnell will be working on refining the offense for success against the small schools coming up on the schedule that will round out pre league-season play, and that figure much more importantly in the placement of the Lady Cubs into a post-season bracket than does the loss to Arcata.

Junior Brianna Finney had 6 points, juniors Kassie Humphrey and Kayla Kercher and freshman Emma Valk each had 4 points, and senior Vonai Willison made a free throw.

South Fork traveled to Clear Lake on Friday but results were unavailable at press time.
