Nailed it: Tigers’ Kinder, Cubs’ Carr earn H-DN volleyball MVP nods

The Times-Standard

Consistency is a trait shared among all great athletes.

And it’s no surprise the two the Humboldt-Del Norte volleyball coaches picked as Most Valuable Players are the epitome of the characteristic.

Maddy Kinder of the Big 5 champion Arcata High Tigers and Shasta Carr of the Little 4 champion South Fork Cubs were named MVPs of their respective leagues as the H-DN released the 2012 All League Selections on Thursday.

Kinder and Carr - both seniors - were the leaders of their respective squads and both led by example.

Whether it was at service with aces or at the net delivering kills, the pair were at the point of attack.

Defensively, Kinder and Carr were as dependable as they were courageous diving for and scooping up digs to keep the Tigers and Cubs in the action.

There were very few "off" nights for Kinder and Carr. Both remained at a constant level of high-intensity and high-performance throughout the season to propel their teams to the conference title.

Still, neither of the MVPs could do it alone.

Joining Kinder on the first team are teammates Lauren McCoy and Molly Salamunovich. The Tigers’ triple threat proved efficient for coach Laurie Griffith both offensive and defensively.

Joining Carr are squadmates Jacy Snodgrass and Trisha Harrison. The Cubs’ trio provided the punch and backbone for head coach Lisa Todd.
