Melodic rockers Angels Cut set for CD release party; Southern Humboldt musicians perform

Humboldt County melodic-rockers Angels Cut are definitely offering up a slice of life to accompany the celebration of their debut LP on Friday, Dec. 7 in Eureka’s Red Fox Tavern. In addition to their energetic, straight-up rock-n-roll performance, the evening will boast burlesque from Arcata’s Beat Vixens, photo booth fun and a supporting set from Washington alt-metal act Lacero.

While Angels Cut may be a relatively new five-piece band, they have already shared the stage with the likes of Otep, Hank 3, (hed) PE, Greg Ginn of Black Flag, Potluck, Rehab Moonshine Bandits and many others.

Their self-titled debut LP was produced by Redway’s Rob Seifert Gage, who has worked with a variety of acts like Eels, Porno For Pyros, Mike Watt of Minutemen and Taj Mahal.

Angels Cut’s debut 12-song LP has a nice blend of distorted, head-banging, mid-tempo and riff-driven hard-rock tracks coupled with just the right amount of sincere, emotional guitar ballads filled with tangible fluidity. It’s reminiscent much more of a sophomore effort. With riffs that sound like a sludgy version of Brett Gurewitz of Bad Religion, drumming similar to Sean Kinney of Alice in Chains and the vocal timbre of Glenn Frey of the Eagles, these guys are going places.

"The main point of this release party is to show our gratitude, love and respect for everyone who has helped us get to this point," said guitarist Utah Blue. "A celebration of the music community and the community in general."

The rockers new singles have been played on local radio stations such as K-Slug (KSLG), Kiss-FM (KJNY) and The Edge (K294AZ).

They’ve also performed at staple North Coast events like Hops in Humboldt, the newly founded annual SoHum summer festival That Damn Show, the Oyster Festival after party at Mazzotti’s and more.

The band cites Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, The Eagles, Disturbed, Bad Religion, Bob Marley, System of a Down, Johnny Cash, Rancid, the Rolling Stones, The Beatles and many others as top influences.

The band is currently deep into working on their sophomore LP and are planning a possible Northwest tour.

Advance passes for the CD-release show are available at Humboldt Clothing, The Works, James Cuts and Clothes, People’s Records, Humboldt Republic, Wildberries Marketplace, Allure Day Spa and Hair Design, SHC Industries and Fortuna Music Mart. Tickets will also be available at the door.
