Reverend Tom Culbert, longtime Southern Humboldt resident, has accepted the call to pastor the Grace Lutheran Church in Redway. Reverend Culbert’s first Sunday in the pulpit will be this Sunday, Nov. 25 at 11 a.m.
Except for an eight-year hitch in the Navy and six years in college, pastor Tom has been a resident of Southern Humboldt since the fall of 1946. He graduated from South Fork High School with the class of 1960. His Christian service career spans slightly over 50 years of ministry, beginning with his conversion to Christ in the fall of 1962 at a Christian servicemen’s center in San Diego, California.
Following his release from the Navy in 1968 he attended Bible College in Washington, D.C. for two years, and finished at San Diego Bible College, graduating in June of 1974. During that time he was involved in Christian servicemen’s ministry and youth ministry in churches on both the east and west coasts. Returning to SoHum in 1974, pastor Tom served as youth minister and adult Bible teacher at the Weott Christian Church for 14 years.
In 1989 he accepted the call to pastor the First Church of Shelter Cove and has served there faithfully until recently receiving the call to Grace Lutheran Church.
Pastor Tom and Nancy, his wife of 47-1/2 years, bring a wealth of experience in church ministry to the Redway-Garberville area. Nancy has taught pre-school through sixth grade Sunday school and vacation Bible school for many years, as well as women’s Bible studies in the churches where they have ministered.
Pastor Tom and Nancy would like you to join with them and others at Grace Lutheran Church this Sunday morning at 11 a.m. They are a small church serving a big God. The church is located on Rusk Lane in Redway, across from the Mateel Community Center.
