Students from Agnes J. Johnson School in Weott visited an organic farm in Pepperwood. Mel and Holly Kreb presented organic farming methods to the students: using legume cover crops as "green manure," crop rotation, and raising worms to make potting soil from garbage and also to aerate the soil. The trip gave students a lot of information to build on when they study science and nutrition since they are researching the elements and the role certain elements play in building a healthy body. The students are finding out which foods have these basic elements in them, which one build strong bones, which build strong muscles, which help our nervous system, etc. This field trip was made possible by a grant from Cal Fresh.
