Doris Annelda Ogden

Doris Annelda Ogden (nee Jackson) passed away October 19, 2012. She was 86 years old. She is finally home with her many loved ones who went before.

Doris was born May 24, 1926 to Islay and Donald Jackson in Basswood, Manitoba Canada. She was fond of recalling her years growing up on a farm in Basswood during the Great Depression. She shared wonderful stories of dresses made out of potato sacks and riding to school through the snow in a horse drawn wagon.

After high school Doris went on to become a Registered Nurse. After her graduation from nursing school in 1948 she spent several years working and traveling around Europe. She traveled with two other women often hitchhiking, sleeping in youth hostels and even spent a few nights sleeping in hay bales. She said it was a wonderful way to see Europe. She always had a love of travel and a brave, adventurous spirit.

In 1955 she met her husband Donald Ogden on the beach in Santa Barbara. They married and settled in Camarillo to raise their family. They were married for 47 years when Don passed away in 2002. While raising her family she continued to work part time at Ventura Community Memorial Hospital for a few years. She was also active in the Ventura County Symphony League, the Point Mugu Missile Mrs. group, and the Republican League of Women Voters. She also sang opera, played the piano and enjoyed bridge with her women friends.

In the late 1990s Doris and Don sold their home in Camarillo and bought a ranch in Whitethorn California, a beautiful spot on the road to Shelter Cove. Doris spent over a decade living at the Hi Oak Ranch with her son Larry and his wife, Janet. She was surrounded by a community of loving family and friends. While living on the ranch she especially enjoyed the weekly dance sessions and music.

Doris is survived by her son Larry Ogden and his wife Janet (Whitethorn), son Tom Ogden and his wife Bess (Eureka), daughter Sue Grimm and her husband Greg (Chico), granddaughter Alisa Dillon-Ogden (San Francisco), granddaughter Islay Dillon-Ogden (Fortuna), grandson Loren Dillon-Ogden (Ettersburg), granddaughter Stephanie Johnson (Chico), granddaughter Rachel Grimm (Colorado Springs), grandson Zachary Ogden (Santa Rosa), her sister-in-law Elsie Jackson (Brandon, Canada) and several loving nieces and nephews who live throughout Canada.

A memorial will be held at the Hi Oak Ranch and her ashes will be joined with those of her late husband Don. Together again in eternity.
