Stolen guns, bullet-proof vests, ski mask and map found at accident scene

Two men died as a result of a single-vehicle accident on Thursday, Oct. 25.

A 2001 Infinity SUV, driven by 20-year-old Domonic Troy Quilici of Crockett, California, was traveling northbound on Hwy. 101 at Cummins Road in northern Mendocino County at about 8:15 a.m. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle ran off the east roadway edge of the freeway, collided with an embankment and overturned several times. The vehicle came to rest on its driver’s side on the east shoulder of the freeway. Quilici remained inside the vehicle where he sustained minor injuries.

The two remaining passengers, whose positions in the vehicle are undetermined, were not wearing seatbelts, and were ejected from the vehicle. Vincent Jay Dodson, age 21 of Vallejo, California succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. His father, 44-year-old Greg Saul Dodson, also of Vallejo, California was flown to Mercy Medical Center in Redding where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Quilici was taken by ground ambulance to Howard Memorial Hospital in Willits where he was treated and released to the custody of California Highway Patrol (CHP) and later booked into the Mendocino County jail for charges including vehicular manslaughter.

Seized from the 2001 Infinity were three loaded handguns, two of which were stolen; two bullet proof vests, several M80’s (illegal explosive devices), an ASP expandable baton, duct tape, a ski mask and a printed Google Map with directions from Valejo to Shelter Cove. The CHP believes the occupants of the vehicle were en-route to Shelter Cove (unknown address) to perform a home invasion and/or marijuana rip-off. The driver survived the collision and was booked into Mendocino County Jail on charges including vehicular manslaughter. This investigation is ongoing and anyone with additional information should contact the California Highway Patrol, Garberville Area Office.

DUI does not appear to be a factor in this collision.
