The South Fork Girls’ soccer team won one and lost one last week with the 5-0 win over St. Bernard’s on Friday assuring the team of a qualifying record for post-season play. The Lady Cubs are now 4-7-1 over all, 4-2 against small schools.
The Cubs fell 5-0 to the Lady Loggers of Eureka Wednesday night on the road. A much improved squad since the Lady Cubs held the big school to a narrow 2-0 margin a month ago the Loggers moved the ball effortlessly and pounded 38 shots at South Fork’s goal, scoring twice in the first half and three times in the second.
On Friday the Cubs dominated the Lady Crusaders at St. Bernard’s for a 5-0 win with junior striker Brianna Finney scoring a hat trick, her second goal a header off of a corner kick taken by senior co-captain Vonai Willison. Also scoring for the Cubs was sophomore rookie Tashina Fields getting the first goal of her high school career and junior striker Megan Garcia getting her second goal of the season off an assist by Finney. Increasingly effective in the midfield, junior Jennie Rolff distributed the ball consistently throughout the game, helping to create scoring chances that led to the Cubs’ 17 shots on goal.
This week the Cubs will host Fortuna at home on Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Del Norte at 1:30 p.m. on Friday for Homecoming.
