Soroptimist International of the Redwoods teamed up with the local girl scouts to make "cuddle" blankets that will be given out locally. This project, called the "Creative Kindness Legacy Kit," was originally started by Sarah Williams, who was our Region Violet Richardson award recipient last year, whose goal was for every child in the foster care system to have a "cuddle" blanket.

Our Region Governor, Linda Sue Hanson, has asked every club in her region to hold "blanket-making" parties and to make two blankets, per member; one for our community and one to bring to the upcoming conference, which will be presented to Sarah to help support her mission. The one-day blanket party started at Soroptimists’ weekly meeting and then finished that night at the Girl Scout meeting.

It was a great evening, with the adults cutting the fabric and the girls doing the tying. That night we completed 24 blankets in two hours. In total, the local club has completed 36 blankets. They will be handing out half of those to our local fire departments, CHP, and local resource center as well as the WISH shelter.

According to Sarah, "you haven’t lived until you have done something for someone who can’t pay you back." Our local Soroptimists are hoping these blankets will be helping someone locally. Soroptimist International is a worldwide organization whose mission is to improve the lives of women and girls in our local communities and throughout the world.
