South Fork’s girls’ soccer team took two losses last week, bringing their record to 1-7-2. On Wednesday the Lady Cubs took a loss by forfeit to Arcata due to injuries.
On Saturday they traveled to Ferndale and fell 4-0. Ferndale’s high-pressure attack was more than the Cubs could handle. The score was 1-0 at the half, but the defense fell apart after a questionable call allowed a shot to be kicked out of senior goalie Kathy Petersen’s hands and into the back of the net.
Senior Kennedy Burnett had an outstanding game at sweeper, and sophomore Ella Scott did very well to contain a key figure in the Ferndale attack.
This week the Cubs will host McKinleyville at home on Wednesday at 7 p.m. They tied McKinleyville 0-0 the first time the two teams met earlier this season. Then the Lady Loggers come to town from Eureka on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. Eureka won the first match-up 5-0 and the Cubs will be hoping to improve on that result.
