South Fork varsity girls wrapped up there season last Tuesday night, Feb. 12 with a 47-37 loss to St. Bernard’s in the first round of the county championship Dick Niclai tournament in Eureka.
Down by only a point at the end of the 3rd quarter the Cubs were outscored 20-11 in the final period. Head coach Dave Bushnell knew that the key to victory would be holding St. Bernard’s star Joslynn Silvers to a low point total, but she had 23 points in the contest that was a low-scoring affair until late.
Senior Vonai Willison led the scoring for the Cubs with 12, followed by junior Kayla Kercher with 10. Junior Trisha Harrison had 8 points and juniors Brianna Finney and Kassie Humphrey had four points apiece.
The Lady Cubs finished the season with a 14-12 record and will have six returning players next year as Willison and fellow senior Tristan Jeffers will graduate in June.
