South Fork’s varsity boys couldn’t get past the St. Bernard’s press in the fourth quarter and fell 71-54 after going into the final period up by a bucket on Friday night in Eureka. "We couldn’t do anything during the fourth quarter, had too many turnovers and couldn’t get the ball past half court," said head coach Jake Mitchell.

The Cubs hit only one shot from the floor (a 3-pointer by sophomore Cole Moody, on loan from the JVs to fill in for injured or ill varsity players) in the lop-sided 4th quarter, scoring 5 of their 8 points on free throws. South Fork could not find a way to shut down Crusader Houston Knox who had 12 of his 24 points down the stretch. Despite good offensive showings by senior Damian Alatorre with 24 points and Crisistian Alatorre with 19, St Bernard’s made defensive adjustments that closed the door on the Cubs late in the game.

Also scoring for the Cubs were junior Joey Wittlake with 5, senior Levi Paine with 2 and senior Ismael Lopez with a free throw.

The Cubs are now 10-5, 0-2 in Humboldt Del Norte Little Four Conference play. They will host McKinleyville on Wednesday at 7:30 and travel to Ferndale, both teams hungry for their 1st HDN win on Friday night.
