South Fork’s frosh-soph boys fell to St. Bernard’s 45-22 last Friday night in Eureka.

Head coach Doug Moody is looking at every game the team gets to play as a learning experience. South Fork has not had a frosh-soph team in nearly a decade and Moody has divided his large JV squad with the aim of getting more players the valuable experience of competition they would otherwise miss out on coming off the bench for the JV team.

His long-range view means the team will take some knocks, but he knows it is in the best interest of the players and the program. "Every time they step on the floor they get better," he says.

South Fork was led by freshman Armando Martinez with 17 points and freshman Nick Way added four. "Way did everything he could for the team at both ends," said Moody who was also pleased with the defensive effort of sophomore Austin Rivers.

The team will host McKinleyville on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. and then hopes to get a game with Ferndale on Friday in Ferndale, time to be announced.
