South Fork’s boys’ soccer team lost to the Eureka Loggers 5-1 last Wednesday night in Eureka. After a run of strong performances against big schools the Cubs suffered their first lop-sided loss in six contests.
Head coach Travid Genzoli said, "Eureka came out with vigor while we were off." The score was 2-0 at the half, but the hungry Loggers scored 3 times within 10 minutes in the second half to secure the win. Speaking of his own former home field, Genzoli, a Eureka High grad, said, "the thick, slick field was a variable we couldn’t overcome. Our first touches, marking and built attacks were fallible."
South Fork Junior Mike Harrison scored late in the game to prevent the shut out. "The team kept trying hard," added Genzoli. "Our spirits are always high, win or lose, and I’m always proud of the team for that."
The loss brings the Cubs’ record to 2-8 on the season. This week they will face Fortuna at home on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Del Norte at home on Friday at 3 p.m. for Homecoming.
