College of the Redwoods has cancelled its women’s intercollegiate soccer team season due to an insufficient number of women on the team, CR Athletic Director Joe Hash announced today.

”CR’s women’s soccer team will not play in the 2012 season because of a lack of players,” Hash said. “The Golden Valley Conference has already been notified of this. CR remains committed to having a women’s soccer team and we will concentrate our efforts on fielding a team for the 2013-2014 season.”

The coach for the team was to be Alan Exley, the CR men’s soccer team coach and a long-time coach of the Humboldt State University men’s soccer squad. The CR men’s soccer team is on its second and last year of being suspended due to a budget shortfall at the College.
