Hoopa Valley, girls champion of the Humboldt-Del Norte Little Four this season, came to Miranda Friday night and showed just how good they are as they dismantled South Fork’s varsity girls, 77-42.
South Fork scored first and held a tie at 4-4 with 6:06 left in the first quarter before Winter Nelson connected on consecutive three point goals to make it 10-4 and the Warriors were off and running. There was no way to contain this deep and talented Hoopa team, which finished unbeaten in league play one year after having to beat South Fork in a special playoff to gain the title. They will now await the Dick Niclai tournament and North Coast Sectionals while the season is over for South Fork.
Senior players Chelsea Harrison, Marie Coffelt, and Taylor Neill were honored before the start of play in their last home game. Each played hard every minute they were in there but the result was inevitable given the depth of talent on the Hoopa roster.
Harrison provided herself, her teammates, and all of the proud spectators one last moment of good cheer by canning a three pointer from near midcourt as time expired.
