The primary purpose of the proposed project is to make minor adjustments to a one-mile section of roadway to accommodate industry standard STAA truck travel. These trucks have been restricted from this section of highway because of tight radius curves. The proposed roadway adjustments will accommodate these trucks, improving goods movement and regional operation on Hwy. 101.
The scope of the proposed project is essentially unchanged from the Final EA. The supplement to the Final EA contains updated old-growth redwood tree maps and analysis requested by the federal court’s order of April 4, 2012 (Bair v. California State Department of Transportation, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, No. C 10-04360). The supplement also presents results of subsequent surveys for marbled murrelets and analyzes potential effects on new proposed barrier rail modifications. Only the portions of the Final EA that were changed due to new or updated information are being recirculated for comment and written comments will be accepted during a 30-day public review period.
