The Garberville Benbow RV Park with the assistance of Redwood Capital Bank has completed the new splash park as part of the ongoing improvements at the facility.
”The opening is just the first part of a major improvement project for Benbow RV,” said managing partner John Porter. “This is in addition to the entire pool area doubling the size and adding another feature to the existing pool and Jacuzzi. New pool furniture and upgrades in the pool restrooms will also be part of the overall project.”
Southern Humboldt has been hoping for a longtime to have a public swimming pool where families can go to enjoy the hot summer days with their kids. And now, with the low-water and algae concerns in our creeks and rivers, this is a perfect option and a way to cool off in a clean and safe environment.
”We chose Splash Zone headquartered in Arizona for the installation. Splash parks are the only thing this company does,” said Benbow general manager Mark McGowan.
McGowan oversaw the entire installation including the site preparation, pad, fencing, and integration with existing pool and deck areas. “It was a team effort with Splash Zone, three local contractors and our own maintenance staff, which I am especially proud of, to get the project completed,” McGowan said.
The Benbow splash park is the only such facility in Humboldt County and gives Benbow
McGowan told the Redwood Times the water from the splash park will be recycled and directed to a new rock water feature hazard on the ninth hole of the golf course that will be built in the near future.
Shirley Petro, operations manager of the RV Park said the facility is open to the public for a daily charge of $5 per person, per day. She said plans for seasonal passes for local residents will be available in the future.
Petro has over 12 years of experience managing large RV parks.
She said, “Since we have doubled the size of the pool area with the addition of the splash park, we have the space which will allow others to enjoy this one-of-a-kind facility here in Humboldt County.”
She requested that if you are coming to the RV Park to use the facilities, please park all vehicles as you come in over by the driving cage or around the back side of the pool area. The spots in front of the pool need to be left open for visitors checking in to the park with large RVs.
This is the ideal place to hold birthday parties or to bring the entire family for a day of fun at the pool and splash park.
The facility is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Please check in at the RV office when you arrive where Petro and her staff will welcome you and explain the guidelines of the facility.
Porter said, “We want people to come and bring their kids and enjoy Southern Humboldt and the Benbow Resort.”
