Whether you're a local resident, a visitor, or someone dreaming about a redwood country getaway, finding out what's going on in Southern Humboldt has become a lot easier in the past month.
With the professional assistance of Chamber Nation, a specialist in creating websites for chambers of commerce, the Garberville-Redway Area Chamber of Commerce unveiled its new, improved, more interactive website in July.
A mobile app that can be downloaded for free through the website or the Play Store makes access to information even quicker and easier for people in motion.
Not only does the website provide all the basic information about where to stay, what to see, businesses and services available, and events in Southern Humboldt, but it offers interactive features for local organizations.
An online sign-up feature makes it easy to join the Chamber. Current members will soon be able to pay their yearly dues online as well.
The initial $25 fee for joining, a one-time charge that is added to the new member's regular dues, will be waived until the end of the year for anyone who signs up online, according to Chamber board member Toni Genaro.
Joining the Chamber entitles new members to a free web page created by Chamber Nation that is accessible through the Chamber's website.
Members will also be able to change information in their listing once they are assigned a secure login.
But the most exciting feature of the new website is the community calendar, Genaro said.
The information is automatically emailed to the calendar editor. Once the information is reviewed and approved, it will appear on the calendar.
Even organizations that are not Chamber members can include their events on the calendar if the events are open to the community.
The mobile site enables users to look up information about Chamber members, including phone numbers and maps. New members can also join through the mobile site.
Board members are taking turns staffing the Chamber office as they continue to seek a new executive director. The members are taking turns doing different jobs usually handled by the director, Genaro said, adding, “We're in full running order even without an ED,” thanks to the hard work of the members.
Anyone interested in applying for the job should send a cover letter, resume, and letters of reference to: Garberville-Redway Area Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 445, Garberville 95542.
Volunteers are also needed to greet visitors and answer questions about the area during office hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They do not need to be Chamber members. Anyone interested in helping out should call the office at 923-2613.
All this information and lots more is available on the new website, www.garberville.org.
