Peter Holgersen receives a 50-Year Golden Veteran Award from his wife at a special ceremony held Feb. 9 at the Eel River Empire Lodge in Fortuna. Holgersen was initiated into the Masonic Fraternity on March 20, 1961, and he has remained a member for more than 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
