Dazey's Motorsports started out with a small area at Dazey's Supply in Redway back in 2005. Once they realized they were going to quickly outgrow that site, they relocated the following year to a building owned by Kenny and Patti Lewis on Briceland Road in Redway.

The Redwood Times sat down with store manager Carolyn Jordan last week to talk about the decision to move once again.

After selling Jordan's Produce, Jordan realized she needed to keep working. She was hired by Dazey's Supply four-and-a-half years ago and moved over to manage Motorsports a year later.

While she knew absolutely nothing about motorcycles or power equipment when she started, she said the one advantage she had was, “I could read a spreadsheet and profit and loss statement and I could balance the books.” She knew how to make the business financially successful and viable.

When asked what prompted the decision to move to Garberville Jordan said, “There were storage issues in Redway. It was a good location, but we just outgrew it. Now we have a freeway presence and a larger area for both the retail and service departments.”

As soon as they decided to look for a bigger store, the building in Garberville, which was the former location of Dragon Heart Tang Soo Do, became available. Jordan said, “It just happened at the right time and we grabbed it. We are so pleased with the way it worked out.”

One thing that made this move possible was the crew at Dazey's. Jordan said everyone was just great and worked extremely hard to make it all happen.

She said they now employ four people in the shop and five in the store. Sales department manager Travis Mullaney has been with the store since the beginning and service department manager Tom Gamble has been with the company for ten years.

Gamble and Mullaney both said they want people to know they are there to help them with anything they need as far as sales and service involving motorcycles and power equipment.

The repair shop is located at the back of the property and will have a drive-thru to Redwood Drive, next door to Organic Grace, which will make deliveries and unloading of equipment easier.

Jordan said, “It can be a real headache when we get a large delivery of ATVs and the truck can't get in and out easily. This will make it much better for everyone concerned.”

Dazey's Motorsports is the area's distributor for Yamaha including motorcycles, ATVs, scooters and generators. They also carry Honda products including power equipment such as generators, weed whackers, tillers and more.

Jordan wanted to stress that they service all makes and models of motorcycles and power equipment in addition to Yamaha and Honda. She said parts man Josh Asbury can order anything you need if they don't have it in stock.

She said, “We are excited to have the room to expand our accessories line, which includes Fox and Thor among others. We also will have more women and kids' lines of gear and motorcycle safety equipment.”

Jordan is hoping to retire at some point. That is, as soon as she can find a worthy replacement to take on the challenges ahead for Dazey's Motorsports.

Nicknamed Yamaha Momma, Jordan said she is the only one at the business who doesn't ride a motorcycle. Maybe it's time to suit up, buy that bike, hit the road, and drive off into the sunset and enjoy life.
