The contractor told the dispatcher that when he drove up to the Pratt Mountain wireless radio tower site east of Garberville he saw two male juveniles running away from the site carrying bolt cutters in their hands. The contractor told the dispatcher the boys had two dogs with them and they were still in the area.
A deputy responded to the site and checked the area. After looking at the site the deputy and contractor saw that every building at the site had been broken into and/or damaged with an estimation of damage of at least $15,000 to $20,000. Other wireless providers had their buildings damaged by the vandals, also.
While the deputy was conducting his investigation at the site he saw two dogs about 20 yards away. When the deputy picked up the dogs he saw that one had a tag with a phone number. He called the phone number and drove to the residence to return the dog.
The adult contacted at the residence was the father of a 14-year-old boy who matched the description of one of the suspects. The deputy also learned the juvenile had a friend who matched the description of the other boy who had been seen fleeing the scene. Both juveniles and their parents met with the deputy who ultimately issued the boys citations for felony vandalism.
