On Sunday, Aug. 12, at 9:30 p.m., 23-year-old Jeremy Patrick Shawaf of Venice, California was the driver and only occupant of a 2000 Toyota 4Runner traveling in the northbound lane on Hwy. 101, north of the Mendocino County line in southern Humboldt County.
While negotiating a left curve in the roadway, Shawaf lost control of his vehicle and the vehicle ran off the east roadway edge. He overcorrected causing the vehicle to reenter the traffic lanes where it overturned several times coming to rest on the southbound shoulder.
Shawaf was subsequently ejected from the vehicle. He was transported by ground ambulance to Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna and was later transferred to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
Shawaf was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision and DUI is not believed to be a factor. The Garberville Area CHP office is investigating this collision.
