A fire 1.5 miles north of Dean Creek on Hwy. 101 reported around 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon. The fire was started next to the roadway where contractors were working. Firefighters from various volunteer fire departments, including Redway, Garberville, Briceland, and Miranda responded along with Cal Fire, Caltrans, and CHP. The fire burned a little over a half an acre and was put out in less than an hour.
