The victim told the investigating deputy he had been in a recent dispute with the suspect who he identified as Ryan Anthony Tanner, 22 years old from Briceland.
The victim told the deputy he was riding his motorcycle on Briceland Road, near the Whitethorn Junction when a white pickup truck driven by Tanner rammed him from behind. The victim lost control of his motorcycle and crashed. Tanner stopped the truck, got out and began striking the victim in the head and chest an estimated 10 or 12 times with a baseball bat. The victim was wearing a motorcycle helmet at the time of the assault. Tanner then reportedly drove off leaving the victim in the roadway. The victim drove to a local store and called 911. On July 11, at 10:30 a.m., Ryan Tanner surrendered to the Sheriff's office in Garberville, where he was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. He was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. His bail was set at $50,000.
