A public hearing was held during the regular College of the Redwoods Board of Trustees regular meeting February 7 to consider realignment of the trustee representational boundaries within the CR district.

The release of the 2010 Census requires review of community college districts and other local government districts for changes in current population size within a district. Community college districts are legally required to comply with the principle of “one person, one vote.” If the population changes, the boundaries of the areas that CR's nine trustees represent must be redrawn to have as nearly equal population as possible so that the voting strength of citizens living in one district is not greater than the voting strength in another district. The new boundaries must be done in a way that does not dilute the voting strength of minority populations.

George Truett is the trustee representing Area 1, which currently encompasses the general boundaries of the Southern Humboldt Unified School District.

The trustees welcome public comments regarding the realignment or redistricting of the CR Board of Trustee area boundaries. For more information on the boundaries, call the CR President's Office at 476-4170.
