1. On Friday, Nov. 6 the Redwood Veterans Center held a luncheon at the Veterans Memorial Building in Eureka honoring women veterans. The program included presentations covering benefits and services for women veterans. Shown here: Garberville veteran Susan Pancoast (USMC) and her mother June Mathison, who was the oldest veteran at the event. Mathison was a lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corp stationed in England during World War II. Pancoast served during the Vietnam era as a Manpower Management Specialist at Paris Island, South Carolina. 2. Local vets Tom Pietila, Susan Pancoast, and Don Swan handed out “buddy poppies” in front of Ray’s Food Place on Saturday in honor of Veterans Day, Wed., Nov. 11.
