Firewood cutting is now being allowed at a designated area in the King Range National Conservation Area, continuing until fire restrictions are put in place next summer.
Permits, which cost $10 per cord, are available at the Bureau of Land Management King Range Project Office in Whitethorn, or the BLM Arcata Field Office, 1695 Heindon Rd., Arcata. There is a two-cord minimum.
The BLM provides maps and wood cutting stipulations to permit purchasers.
BLM officials asked that wood cutters stay out of the King Range back country during heavy rains to avoid damaging roads.
