Join the Southern Humboldt Emergency Preparedness team on July 11 and 12 at the Healy Senior Center in Redway for our first comprehensive preparedness training workshop, partnering with American Red Cross, to learn how to care for families, friends and neighbors in a mass care setting and how to set up a shelter using community resources. All at no charge to you!

10 a.m.-noon Fulfilling Our Mission: Overview of Red Cross, how disaster relief is organized and how your skills can be used to help others. [Pre-requisite for other courses.] Lunch provided.

1-4:30 p.m. Mass Care: Community volunteers provide comfort and nourishing meals to disaster victims and emergency workers. Learn how to set up this critical service.

Sunday, July 12

9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Shelter Operations: Volunteers provide a safe, warm environment following disasters by opening, managing and closing shelters in their own communities. Learn the steps involved in this important disaster services function. Lunch provided.

1:30-4:30 p.m. Shelter Simulation: Work with your team to practice skills for managing shelters during this low-key tabletop simulation to establish a community shelter.
