On July 20 celebrate all things Blue Lake! After the citywide Annie and Mary Day festivities, culminating with Dell’Arte’s Blue Lake Pageant, end your day in Dell’Arte’s backyard Rooney Amphitheatre as Blue Lake’s favorite bands take the stage.

Before rocking Blue Lake Bands out Back, don’t miss the Blue Lake Pageant! Featuring San Francisco’s Sun and Moon Ensemble, and directed by Dell’Arte alumni Anna Svensson of Sweden, the theme of this year’s pageant is hope. The free fun begins at Perigot Park at 4 p.m., as samba dancers and hundreds of masked participants wind their way through the streets of Blue Lake ending in front of Dell’Arte (131 H St.) in a spectacle that must be experienced to be believed.

Stick around after the Blue Lake Pageant to dance the night away with Blue Lake Bands out Back. This year’s featured musicians are homegrown specialties, The Kiwis, The Brendas, and Kulica. Local Blue Laker, performer and storyteller Jeff DeMark will also be taking the stage with three original works set to music. DeMark made his first Mad River Festival debut in 1993.

Following DeMark, is a band that makes Blue Lake proud to call

its own - everybody’s good-time favorites Kulica. Rocking the Humboldt County music scene and beyond for six years, Kulica dishes up groove, funk and soul-shaking rhythms to refresh your soul and get you groovin’.

Next up are The Brendas, an experience you won’t soon forget. Ever fashionable whether they’re dressed as nuns, soccer players or housewives, The Brendas’ quirky hits are sure to get stuck in your head. A true Blue Lake sensation, The Brendas are named in honor of the lone bartendress at the Logger Bar, Blue Lake’s lone watering hole.

Closing out the night are the power-pop-grunge-garage sounds of The Kiwis. This trio of local teens captures the punk-tinged malaise of growing up behind the Redwood Curtain.

Blue Lake Bands out Back begins at 5 p.m., with an admission price of $10. For those coming late, or for the younger set who just want to catch The Kiwis, ticket prices drop to $5 beginning at 7 p.m.

Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy Dell’Arte’s backyard amphitheatre, dancing under the stars, with a few of Blue Lake’s very own stars!
