The community known as The Feet First Dancers has gathered its forces and, armed with touching song, beautiful dance, and a banana peel or two, is invading Southern Humboldt with an original musical production entitled Beyond the Paille: Further Adventures in Clowntown. The show will be presented at the Mateel Community Center during the July 4th weekend.

This is a Community endeavor that even a three-ring circus couldn’t contain and is guaranteed to be a show you don’t want to miss. The cast is made up of over 15 dancers (some of whom are the grandchildren of the original Clowntown cast), six singers, various musicians, talented actors and some well-known and very well-loved local heroes such as David Simpson and Jane Lapiner, Antonia Lamb, and a dog named Dellwood Barker.

This show is in the tradition of past Feet First Dancer’s productions such as Success, Mr. Whyme and the Final Taboo, and the original Clowntown, the Search for the Holey Pail. It continues the plot line of the original Clowntown, the Search for the Holey Pail, which played at the Mateel Community Center in spring of 1989. In that show four friends went off in search of adventure and with the help of a mighty

wizard, discovered the Holey Pail and the meaning of life.

The current show presents the events that have transpired in the 20 years since the pail was found. In that spirit, the group has brought back the eccentric characters of Clowntown to explore the ups and downs of community. In Beyond the Paille: Further Adventures in Clowntown we laugh at ourselves, celebrate our success, cry over our losses, and dance from the past into modern life. And along the way we encounter a new pale...a new form of clownwhite makeup called “Paille de Lite,” “direct from the Whitehouse” and guaranteed to make the wearer appear brilliant. But there are consequences! The wild and wacky members of the Clowntown community sing and dance their way through this current adventure with surprising results and unexpected twists, turns and fragrances.

Beyond the Paille: Further Adventures in Clowntown will take place at the Mateel Community Center from Thursday, July 3, to Saturday, July 5, at 7 p.m. The matinee on Sunday, July 6 is at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at Back In a Flash in Garberville (923-2441) and at the door. Advance tickets are suggested, as Feet First shows usually sell out. Bleacher and balcony seats are $15-$20 and floor seating is $10. Seats will be released 10 minutes before showtime, so be sure to arrive early to claim your spot. There will be enough time after the July 4 performance to attend the Benbow fireworks exhibition.

Treat your family to this high energy, inspiring journey through the streets of Clowntown. Enjoy a bird’s eye view of our bird-brained world. You’re sure to leave with a smile on your face, a song in your heart, and a new passion for creating the life you love.
