The Harris Community Center is hosting a benefit bluegrass and old time music concert on Saturday, June 21, featuring music by Bucky Walters, Rooster McClintock, and Palo Verde locals Way Out West.

Please come enjoy your favorite local bluegrass bands, dine on mostly local food, and support another community event at our beautiful space at 91 Harris Road, Harris.

Just 20 minutes from Garberville, this family friendly event will offer pasta, salad and pie for purchase and free activities for children from 2 p.m. to dusk. Entrance is $10 per person (sliding scale). All proceeds will benefit the continuing renovation of the historic Harris Community Center building.

From Garberville take Alderpoint Rd eight miles to Bell Springs Rd (right hand turn). Approximately two miles down Bell Springs make a left hand turn onto Harris Rd. The Community Center is the first right hand turn, 1/4 of a mile down Harris Rd.

If you can’t attend but would like to support the Harris Community Center, Inc., donations can be made on Community Credit Union account 12914 or mailed to the HCC at P.O, Box 984, Garberville CA 95542.

The Harris Community Center, Inc. also happily announces that our May 11 fundraising event, held at the New Harris General Store Spring Celebration in New Harris was another wonderful day in our community and a successful fundraiser.

We extend our thanks to everyone who contributed to this event, especially Rob Gellman and Kim Phelps of the New Harris General Store, who kindly offered a venue and extensive logistical assistance.

We were fortunate to have many local foods on our menu: our excellent hamburgers were made with local beef donated by Harris residents Journey and Rachael Aquarian of Harris Land & Cattle, the organic mesclun salad was grown by Kim Phelps for the event, bread was donated by Brio Bakery of Arcata and desserts were donated by many community members.

We would also like to thank the generous donors of prizes for our raffle: Apex North, The Bootleg, Dazey’s, Emerald Technology, Missy and Crow Gellman, Harris Enterprises, Heartwood Institute, Humboldt Hunnies, Milt’s Saw Shop, The Paper Mill, the New Harris General Store, Organic Grace, and Signature Coffee. We apologize for any accidental omissions.

The Harris Community Center Board meets on the second Wednesday of the month at the Harris Community Center at 6 p.m.
