BENBOW >> With the 38th annual Summer Arts and Music Festival coming up May 31 and June 1, that means festival season is right around the corner and the Mateel Community Center is getting ready to kick it off in style. Returning to the banks of the Eel River at Benbow Lake State Recreation Area in Southern Humboldt, the Summer Arts and Music Festival will live up its reputation.

Drawing performers, vendors, and attendees from across the country (and beyond), it is also one of the great showcases of our local creative arts talent and many of the exhibitors and entertainers hail from right here in Humboldt and Mendocino counties.

In addition to performances by annual festival favorites Feet First, Lost Coast Marimbas, Circus Nature, and Chris & Peter, expect the Summer Arts debut from groups like The Getdown, Blacksage Runners, Funkacillin, WurlyBird, Swownd, Free Rain, RedHawk Woman, Storm Born, Safari Boots and Cyclops & The Owl. Also featured will be local festival faves like Joanne Rand, Dirt Floor Band, Latin Peppers, Berel Alexander, Lakshmi's Daughters, Twango Macallan, UFO8, Crossroads, The Bret Harte Breakers, International Trash, Humboldt Capoeira, Asha Nan, Periko Circo Express, Dysphunctional Species, The No Good Redwood Ramblers, and so many more plus headlining sets by Pimps Of Joytime, Nahko and Medicine For The People, Ganga Giri, Afrolicious, The Brothers Comatose, and a special collaboration of local funksters, Motherlode, with legendary contributors DJ Logic and Bill Summers, who will also perform sets of their own throughout the weekend.
