Open Studios is an opportunity for artists to make personal connections with the public. Art fans get to see how the artist works and talk to them about inspiration and method. North Coast Open Studios is also a great opportunity for artists to showcase new projects.
Goals for this year include youth involvement through school clubs, organizations, or individuals and Southern Humboldt artist participation on the second weekend, through “hot spots,” one location with multiple artists, which can draw more visitors to the area. Artists may contact NCOS coordinator Monica Topping for more information on hot spots in Fortuna, on the Avenue of the Giants, and further south.
The 2014 NCOS season also welcomes new coordinator Monica Topping, who has worked for many years in local media and recently released the 2014 “small town: BIG ART” calendar, featuring 12 local artists working in various media. Topping is inspired by the artistic talent throughout the county and looks forward to supporting and marketing local artists through this and other projects for years to come.
