The Southern Humboldt Garden Club resumed their monthly meetings on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Theresa Chesmore of the newly opened Butterfly House in Fortuna presented live butterflies and caterpillars for members to view up close and personal, discussed butterfly habits, nectar/larval plants of Monarchs, West Coast Ladies, Mourning Cloaks and Red Admirals. Club members released live butterflies in the outdoors.
Club members also discussed providing landscaping plants for Weott’s new Cal Fire Station. This will become the current community project.
The community is invited to attend club meetings on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 1 p.m. at the Weott Christian Church. October’s guest speaker will discuss growing dahlias. For more information call Claudia Liebscher, 707-946-2643.
