Although relatively new on the scene, Three Times Bad is quickly making a name for itself, gigging across the NoCal region, from SF, Oakland and Alameda to the South Bay, Santa Cruz and Sacramento. The trio successfully toured the Pacific Northwest in late June (performing with the Strangled Darlings, Accordion Babes, Contratiempo and Sinferno Cabaret) and is playing its first music festival at Humboldt Hoedown.
The band members like to engage audiences by encouraging waltzes, boot-stomps, sing-a-longs and shout-outs, which makes for a fun live-music experience. The group leans toward provocative, high-energy shows for adults, but it can also temper its lyrics with “family-friendly” variations of its tunes at all-ages venues like Oakland’s Art Murmur, the monthly art walk that draws thousands and where the band plays from the back of Jesus’ truck.
Given its literary origins, Three Times Bad has become the go-to musical act among the Bay Area’s premier lit series -- including East Bay on the Brain, Anger Management and Bitchez Brew -- in addition to being “the official band” at the massive Beast Crawl (four-hour literary pub crawl with 100+ readers in uptown Oakland) and Zyfez California in early July.
