This is a multi-jurisdictional planning process and will identify how future population growth might be accommodated in Humboldt County. It is an opportunity to learn about what projects are currently planned, see what neighbors are thinking and provide your ideas about what makes communities enjoyable to live in.
In the fall/winter of 2010-2011 a survey was done and seven public meetings were held to solicit input from residents. The second round of public meetings will be held in September to review the original feedback, look at the effects of different growth patterns and discuss ideas for the future of communities throughout the county. There will be six meetings as follows:
o Wednesday, Sept. 12 at Azalea Hall, 1656 Sutter Rd, McKinleyville.
o Monday, Sept. 17 at HSU Aquatic Center, 921 Waterfront Drive, Room 203, Eureka.
o Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the Bayside Grange, 2297 Old Arcata Road, Bayside.
o Wednesday, Sept. 19 at the Veterans Hall, 483 Conger St., Garberville.
o Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Willow Creek Community Services District Office, 38883 SR 299, Willow Creek.
o Thursday, Sept. 27 at Monday Club, 610 Main St., Fortuna.
Refreshments will be served. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. to allow everyone the opportunity to grab a bite before starting the meeting. The meetings will start at 6 p.m. All meetings will end by 8:30 p.m. Vouchers will be available to help defray childcare costs enabling residents with young children to take part.
In addition to working at the meeting, Crowdbrite, an interactive new web-based technology will be introduced. Crowdbrite will allow all residents, including those who are not “meeting goers,” to provide input. Crowdbrite will be used at all the meetings where Internet is available so bring laptops, iPads and smartphones. It’s easy and fun. Go to the website now and sign up to receive future announcements about Imagine Humboldt (www.imaginehumboldt.com) and notification telling when Crowdbrite will be available and how to get access.
Residents are encouraged to save the date and attend the meeting closest to where they live. Be thinking about what would make Humboldt County a great place to live in the year 2050. For additional information go to www.imaginehumboldt.com or call Siana at (707) 444-8208.
